An Introduction: Vegan Beauty

Every now and then we all need a little beauty overhaul, and lately I have been learning about vegan and cruelty free beauty products. Many people are making the switch to kinder beauty brands that offer an eco-friendly and green alternative to some of the less mindful brands, that have previously dominated the beauty industry and our bathrooms!

The green and vegan beauty market is growing, and with more demand I am sure it will continue to thrive. I have discovered so many great new products over the past few months, and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface! Slowly but surely, I have been replacing my old favourites for more eco-conscious and vegan friendly products and it has actually been really fun. Another step in my vegan journey!

Even if you are not vegan by diet, you can be with beauty!

It is so important to do your research- to support natural, eco-friendly and cruelty-free brands. It is our responsibility as consumers, to at the very least look and examine our beauty regimes to see if we can make them better. I promise it isn’t as hard as you may think!

We are spoilt for choice and there are more and more new products every day across skincare, bodycare, hair products and make up. I appreciate it is a lot to contemplate a complete overhaul, so start small.

If you are new to vegan beauty- unsure, or don’t know where to begin, then these products are a few of my tried and tested favourites…

My Vegan Beauty Starter Kit!

SKINIRVANA Pure Bliss Delicate Beauty Oil (£45.00)

I started to use Skinirvana a few months ago and it is so beautiful. It smells wonderful and feels divine on your skin. It is gentle enough to use as a daily moisturiser. It is 100% natural, chemical-free, never tested on animals, contains over 95% ingredients from organic origin and it is vegan- sounds perfect right!? I had always been a little dubious of beauty oils, I was worried they would be too greasy but nothing could be further from the truth. This beauty oil is nourishing and delicate, my skin has never felt or looked better.

INIKA Long Lash Mascara (£23.00)

I am so fussy when it comes to mascaras. Annoyingly I have never had long full eyelashes and so finding a good mascara that doesn’t clog up but does have a good impact can be hard. Enter: Inika Long Lash Mascara. This black mascara is 100% natural and plant based. It really delivers length and definition, and better yet it is infused with antioxidants which have made my lashes feel healthier and stronger too.

Dr Botanicals Coco & Coconut Superfood Reviving and Exfoliating Cleansing Bar (£5.90)

Dr Botanical’s products are 100% natural. The Coco and Coconut Superfood Reviving and Exfoliating Cleansing Bar is my favourite. It smells lovely and is so gentle on your skin. It is infused with rich oils from coconuts, and really helps give your skin a little pick me up, especially if it is tired or stressed. It is inexpensive and I think an absolute essential to your vegan beauty regime!

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Moisturiser (£29.00)

The bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser is completely vegan and perfect for sensitive skin. I used to be guilty of wearing a dense layer of foundation but I was really starting to crave something that gave me a more natural look, but decent coverage. Amazingly, this mineral based makeup achieves all this! It gives flawless and light coverage that lasts all day, it is hydrating and gives your complexion a real lift. It has certainly ended my dependence on heavy foundations and has given me so much skin confidence.

Tropic Smoothing Cleanser (£16.00)

I love a cleanser that is easy and quick and really delivers when taking your make up off. I have really sensitive skin, so I also need something really gentle. This beautiful cream cleanser smells lovely and fresh, melts away makeup with total ease and makes your skin feel so clean and soft. The entire Tropic range is 100% cruelty free and vegan.

LUSH Godiva conditioning shampoo Bar & Tin (£8.00 + £2.50 tin)

This shampoo bar is amazing. It is completely vegan, plastic free and lasts forever. It smells wonderful and makes my hair feel soft and healthy. It lathers up really well and with the handy tin is so eco-friendly. I was nervous about using a shampoo bar but I needn’t have been, it is great and I definitely want to try more of the LUSH range!

Beauty Papier Daisy Toner (£25.00)

This toner is gorgeous. It is infused with real chrysanthemum flowers and is so gentle on your skin. It is 100% natural and purifies, hydrates, and softens skin without any drying effects. I often get really red skin, and sometimes my skin feels really tight after a hot shower and this toner immediately relaxes my skin. It is free from alcohol and parabens and relies on its natural floral extracts and waters alone, perfect for sensitive skin and daily use!

So there you have it… a little introduction to vegan beauty! Hopefully I have inspired you a little to start researching some great additions and replacements for your own skin care regime.

Don’t be intimidated, there are loads of options out there just go for it and see what you discover!
